Fantastic place!!! I had dinner here this past weekend. I ordered the juicy, fresh and delicious cheeseburger- absolutely fantastic. By far one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. We also ordered dessert – a warm apple cake with vanilla ice cream. Top notch. Such a fabulous restaurant for brunch, lunch, or dinner! VERY reasonable pricing for the exceptional quality of food!! Can’t wait to come back!

A last minute reservation for us, but what an excellent choice. Ordered Humus appetizer
And a cheese plate as well as an intended to share entree. Had to turn off the entree, the appetizers
were huge. Wine was superb. People watching plentiful. They have an outdoor dining
area overlooking Cary Street. This is a must experience from the many choices in
Carytown.

“Great brunch location for the girls”
Met some friends for brunch while in town. This place was great, upstairs cafe right in the middle of Carytown.) Very feminine and decorated wisely. The food was amazing. Two of us made the turkey sandwich, one had soup, and another had the crab cake sandwich. All where delicious. (as where the mimosa’s!) The only rough part was parking, but we found if you pay attention and go up a couple streets, on the left it points you to a small FREE parking lot/garage RIGHT behind this place, short walk up a street and you’re right beside it!

What a great little gem of a restaurant! Vibrant decor, friendly and attentive service plus good food. What more could you ask for? I would definitely go back!

Brunch is great! And the girl who runs the place, Xtra, is awesome. Check out her moms shop downstairs.

Ask most people why they eat out and one answer that will be shared is the desire to have a good time. In today’s era of celebrity chefs and foodie obsessives, that core philosophy has been too often lost in a desire to be cool or avant-garde.

Not so at Xtra’s. Once you sit down, you get the impression you could hang out for hours, munch a bit, imbibe a little and enjoy the company of friends. Is that not what we’re all hoping for?

A key ingredient in Xtra’s success is décor. Located above Bangles and Beads in Carytown, you enter the dining room from an elegant stairway and are greeted by vibrant walls and an impressive curved bar. Most of the tables are set against a long padded bench draped in fun green fabric for a loungy, relaxed setting. Each night, a different special is featured on a chalkboard menu—Thursday is Ladies’ Night, with specials on cosmos and Woodchuck cider (What, no Appletini?).

Along with the drink specials, Xtra’s offers a decent variety of beers on tap, plenty of wines and even some bubbly. The bartenders and wait staff seem more than helpful and have a good grasp of the food and drink options.

Xtras Cafe Patio

The art deco vibe, the hip color palette of sage green, turquoise and bright red, the second-story arched patio overlooking the hustle and bustle of Cary Street — everything about Xtras Café says “Carytown.” Well, except for one very important aspect — the prices.

Serving a multifaceted menu that includes flatbread pizzas, sandwiches, pasta and entrees boasting an array of global influences, Xtras Café is the wallet-friendly reprieve in Carytown’s sea of trendy boutiques, high-end furniture stores and upscale eateries.

Located above Bangles & Beads and open for only a few months, this bright cafe has already generated quite a fan club, no doubt a result of fabulous nightly specials. Where else can you get a bottle of champagne for only $10? Xtras offers this deal every Wednesday night.

The large bar begs for libation lovers to sip the night away, and the row of banquette-style seating lining one wall provides a suitable spot for a leisurely lunch or dinner. Even though the space is somewhat small, Xtras manages to straddle the line between hip hangout and a spot where you’d want to take your family, as I did the day before Thanksgiving. [Read more...]
